So, around summer last year I bought Frontlines: Fuel of War on sale on steam and while playing it I discovered and fell in love with the minigun. I loved it so much that I began to model it and then promptly forgot about it. Last week I rediscovered it and finished it. Having done so I felt the need to do a test render to check the geometry for faults. Finding none I decided to post it on deviant art for further scrutiny. The problem though is that I have yet to build a render farm and even with a 3930k overclocked to 4.5GHZ I could not squeeze out a frame in less than two minutes.
Thus I rendered out this 500 frame bugger over the last three days, on and off equaling a total of 1100 minutes. The main motivation was actually that I have never rendered an animation with final gather before thus I felt the sudden urge. The model is a gross 3.3 million polygons though I expect as usual to drop that down to a million at the very most after texturing this bugger.
One last thing I have to say is that during the video editing stage I found the video very boring! So I decided to add some sound effects and a very catchy 5. Panau National Anthem.
